Bus Rules

The Transportation Department staff would like to provide the following information for the parents of students who use school bus service during the year.  Our goal is to provide a safe and timely service to students to help improve their educational day.

Students are expected to follow acceptable behaviors while waiting for or riding the bus.  Our continuing goal is to reduce the number of safety hazards on the bus.  Students create safety hazards by distracting the driver and thus endangering the lives of other bus riders.  By reducing the number of safety hazards, your student will be able to ride the bus in the safest environment possible.

We believe in teaching children to respect the rights of others through responsible thinking.   When students follow the behavior expectations, everyone receives the reward of safe transportation.  All students have the responsibility to help maintain a safe transportation system and are expected to follow the bus behavior guidelines:

  • Follow driver's directions.
  • Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself.
  • Share seats, remain seated correctly.
  • Be nice and respect others.
  • No tobacco, drugs, or weapons.
  • No food or drinks.

When a student violates the behavior expectations, the Transportation Department shall notify the building administrator.  The building administrator shall be responsible for carrying out all discipline consistent with school and District policies.  If the student continues to misbehave, the student may be removed from the bus for the remainder of the school year.

In general, the following guidelines shall apply:

1st incident:  Verbal warning by driver.  Transportation Department documents incident and sends copy to parents.

2nd incident:  School administrator meets with student and contacts parents concerning disciplinary actions (possible bus suspension).

3rd incident:  School administrator meets with student and contacts parents concerning disciplinary actions (recommended one- to ten-day suspension).

4th incident:  School administrator meets with student and contacts parents concerning disciplinary actions (recommended removal from transportation for balance of school year).
