Meet our Board Members
School boards are charged with decisions that impact what
students learn, how students are taught, how learning is
measured, how teachers are supported with professional
development, how funds are focused on District priorities, and
how effectively the community is engaged with student learning.
Our Board of Trustees has many responsibilities and duties,
including hiring the Superintendent, making decisions on school
property, approving contracts, authorizing bids and
expenditures, approving school budgets, overseeing curriculum,
and approving issues related to personnel.
Those who serve on the Board of Trustees are truly committed
to the School District's goal of striving toward educational
excellence and enriching Blaine County's learning community.

Steven Guthrie, Chairman
Representing Zone 2
Term Expires: 2013
Steve has lived in the Wood River Valley for the
past twenty-eight years and is grateful for the
lifestyle and opportunities that our community
has to offer. Steve is currently employed by the
Friedman Memorial Airport Authority and holds
the position of Airport Security Coordinator.
His two children, ten and thirteen, both attend
our Blaine County public schools. Steve looks
forward to serving as your elected Blaine County
School District (BCSD) Board of Trustee.

Don Nurge, Vice-Chairman
Representing Zone 5
Term Expires: 2015Don joined
the school board in 2011.
He was born and raised in New Jersey where he
received a BS in Mechanical Engineering and a
Masters Degree in Management.
Don has lived in the Ketchum area since 1992.
He and his wife Lori have two children,
Landon and Jenna who attend Blaine County Schools.
Don is actively involved in the community
having served on numerous committees and boards, and
is a volunteer firefighter/EMT.

Paul Bates, Trustee
Representing Zone 4
Term Expires: 2013
Paul Bates was elected to the Board of Trustees
in 2009. He is a self-employed wood worker and
has lived in the Wood River Valley since 1973.
He has two children, Maddie and Eron, who attend
Blaine County schools. Paul has extensively
volunteered and shown his commitment to our
schools, including being the vice-president of
the Wood River Middle School PTA for the past
two years. He looks forward to making a
positive contribution to public education in
Blaine County.

Shawn Bennion, Trustee
Representing Zone 1
Term Expires: 2015
Shawn was elected to the Board of Trustees in
2011. Shawn came to Blaine county in 2003,
and has enjoyed living here since. His
wife is a Blaine County native. They have
four children with two currently attending
school in Blaine County. Shawn attended
Ricks College for two years, spent two years
living in Spain, and became a Journeyman
electrician in 2007. He is currently
employed by Sun Valley company. He is
excited to help bring the best education
possible to all our youth.

Kathryn Graves, Trustee
Representing Zone 3
Term Expires: 2015
Kathryn Graves was appointed to the Board of
Trustees in September 2010. She graduated from
the University of Montana with a BA in History.
Kathryn and her husband, Tim, have two boys who
attend the WRMS and the WRHS. She has been
actively involved in the Blaine County School
District for over ten years.
