Updated Strategic Plan

Moving forward with the Strategic Plan

Posted September 14th, 2009

As we move forward with our Strategic Plan we would like to keep our patrons up to date with this process.  Outlined below are examples of the progress we have made surrounding aspects of our mission, goals, and strategies within those goals.  You may also  download our complete Strategic Plan.

Our October teacher in-service days are both dedicated to 21st Century Skills

How does this relate to the Strategic Plan?

  • Part of our mission is "To Be A Model School District in which...Staff imbeds mastery of BCSD 21st Century Student Performance Indicators in all subjects".  Both the speakers will address 21st Century Skills and what our students will need to become global citizens.

  • Goal One (21st Century Skills), Strategy One deals with Professional Development: "Highlight ways teachers can seize opportunities for integrating 21st Century skill tools and teaching strategies into their classroom practice and help identify what activities can be replaced or de-emphasized".

BCSD is currently training and developing teaches in grades 6 – 10 in International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme.

18 teachers have received level-one training.  Our intention is to accelerate this training and, using currently allocated professional development monies, we expect to have all core teachers trained by the fall of 2010.

How does this relate to the Strategic Plan?

  • Goal Two (Rigorous Curriculum), Strategy One recommends implementing "International Baccalaureate".

BCSD is in its first year of full day kindergarten.

Although this year was projected as a pilot year for full day kindergarten, BCSD was able to shuffle staff and meet this objective fully.

How does this relate to the Strategic Plan?

  • Goal Two (Rigorous Curriculum), Strategy Two recommends implementing "All Day Kindergarten".

WRHS is expanding its AP (Advanced Placement) options.

This year, WRHS has expanded its AP offerings by adding three additional classes.  In addition to the AP classes already offered, WRHS is now offering AP Physics, AP Biology and AP English Composition.

How does this relate to the Strategic Plan?

  • Goal Two (Rigorous Curriculum), Strategy Six recommends the "expansion of College Level Course Offerings".

Levy Committee Formed

Posted June 14th, 2009

In order to fulfill the community's intent developed through the Strategic Planning Process last year, a Plant Facilities Levy Team has been established.  Members have been chosen to represent each area of our total community, and are currently prioritizing these projected expenditures into normal operational budget items, and those necessary to take to the public for their approval on a plant facilities levy.

For meeting minutes, committee members and more information please go to the Levy page.

SWOT Survey/Interview Results and Update from Planning Team Meeting

Posted February 12th, 2008

The Planning Team recently held a two-day meeting on January 31st and February 1st.  The purpose of the meeting was to review the data that has been collected to date, including the comments from the Community Meeting in October, responses from the SWOT interviews and surveys that were being conducted over the last few months, and responses from the Student Focus Groups that were conducted at each school.

We had over 2000 responses to the SWOT surveys and interviews, and the individual comments were posted on over 6000 post-it notes displayed through out the room. (Please see below for a complete summary of all responses).  The job of the Planning Team was to organize the comments by representative themes.  From these themes,  the Planning Team broke off into the following focus groups and began working to further define our vision of becoming a model school district and started to create goals for each of the focus areas.  The Planning Team will continue to work within these focus areas to further define the goals, strategies, and actions that will be recommended to the Board of Trustees.  Please see the Group Memory for a complete summary of the two day meeting.

Focus areas are as follows:

SWOT Survey and Interview Responses

*Please note that each separate idea offered in a response was broken down into its own comment.  Therefore, if multiple suggestions were offered for one question, each of those suggestions have been separated into single comments.
