SWOT Survey/Interview Results and Update from Planning Team
Meeting
Posted February 12th, 2008
The Planning Team recently held a two-day meeting on January
31st and February 1st. The purpose of the meeting was to
review the data that has been collected to date, including the
comments from the Community Meeting in October, responses
from the SWOT interviews and surveys that were being conducted
over the last few months, and responses from the Student Focus
Groups that were conducted at each school.
We had over 2000 responses to the SWOT surveys and interviews, and the individual comments were posted on over 6000 post-it
notes displayed through out the room.
(Please see below
for a complete summary of all responses). The job of the Planning
Team was to organize the comments by representative themes.
From these themes, the Planning Team broke off into the following
focus groups and began working to
further define our vision of becoming a model school
district and started to create goals for each of the focus
areas. The Planning
Team will
continue to work within these focus areas to further define the
goals, strategies, and actions that will be recommended to the
Board of Trustees. Please see the
Group Memory for a
complete summary of the two day meeting.
Focus areas are as follows:
- Cultural and Economic Diversity
- Curriculum
- Community Involvement
- Technology
- Safety and Security
- Quality Personnel
- Whole Child Education
- Sustainability and Healthy Living
- Facilities
SWOT Survey and Interview Responses
*Please note that each separate idea offered in a response
was broken down into its own comment. Therefore, if
multiple suggestions were offered for one question, each of
those suggestions have been separated into single comments.
- Strengths - Identifying the strengths of
our district is the foundation upon which to prepare for the
future. What do you think the Blaine County School District does
very well?
-
Weaknesses -
What would you suggest be improved, changed, or innovated?
-
Opportunities -
What current and anticipated opportunities might the school
district take advantage of?
-
Threats -
What current and anticipated threats or challenges might impact
the Blaine County Schools?
-
Three Wishes -
You have a magic wand. You have been granted 3 wishes for this
school district that would set it apart on a national level.
What would those three wishes be?
Student Focus Group Responses
-
Strengths -
What are the strengths of your school? What does your school do
well?
-
Helps Learning - Think of a time when you
know you really learned something in your classes. It doesn’t
have to be this school year.
-
Hinders Learning -
Tell me things that hinder (do not help) your learning.
-
Safety -
Tell us how comfortable you are at school. Do you feel safe at
school and in your classes, with other students, with adults?
