How will the levy help BCSD & our
community?
The levy will preserve the general operating budget for the
most important items for education: teachers, curriculum,
program development and implementation.
The levy supports implementation of the Strategic Plan,
designed and supported by unprecedented community involvement,
and will guide us through 2020.
A world class school district leads to economic stimulus in
the community. Facilities repair, maintenance, and operations
costs are investments in our children’s education and our
community. These benefits continue regardless of fluctuations
in the economy.
The levy will provide funding for technology improvements
needed to support curriculum, instruction and development of
successful 21st century students.
The levy is smart financial planning. Avoids interest payments,
ultimately saves tax revenues.
Money is not collected if need is not realized. During the years
1981 through 2006, Blaine County School District (BCSD) did not
levy over $30 million dollars in regular maintenance and
operations levies because the money wasn’t needed. In 2006,
when the budget stabilization levy was created, BCSD did not
levy either the Bond or Plant Facilities levies because we
didn’t need the money. Over the past twenty-two years, BCSD has
qualified for emergency levies due to increased student
enrollment that seldom collected because the money wasn’t
needed.
Funding the levy for infrastructure improvements will lower
long-term energy and maintenance costs as well as protecting
over $120 million in assets the district already owns.
Educating children in our community is the SOLUTION.
