ERC Offers Science After School Program

Monday, September 20, 2010

This school year, the Environmental Resource Center is pleased to offer SAS! Science After School to 4th and 5th grade students at Bellevue, Hailey, Hemingway, and Woodside Elementary Schools.  ERC will begin this fall with programs at Hemingway and Bellevue, work with Woodside this winter, and end with Hailey in the spring.

ERC created SAS! to provide 4th and 5th graders opportunities beyond the school day to participate in project-based learning, within the context of natural science, the environment, and sustainability issues. ERC will be mindful of the BCSD curriculum standards for the two grade levels, and work to incorporate these, as appropriate, into the curriculum.  Participants can explore science through games, art, journaling, observation, exploration, service learning, and scientific research.

Each 8-week session is FREE and includes all supplies - as well as a snack and a journal!  ERC also provides an on-line journal for parents so that you can learn what your child is learning via stories and pictures.  ERC offers suggestions for incorporating topics, ideas, and discussions at home.

Students must register in order to participate, and the program is limited to 16 students due to the nature of our adventures!  To learn more about the program, click SAS! Science After School on the ERC’s website, or call 208-726-4333 to register today!
