Vote for Sustain It
Habitat, a local magazine and sister publication of Sun Valley Guide, is launching Sustain It, awards that “highlight the efforts within the local community to keep this a perfect place for future generations” according to the magazine. You can help the Blaine County School District by nominating the school district, staff or students for your Favorite Green Advocate or Green Business here. The deadline is this Monday, February 6.
The awards consist of five categories: Favorite Green Advocate (person or business), Favorite Locally Made Product (nonedible or edible), Favorite Green Restaurant, Favorite Green Business and Favorite Green Service. Go to http://svguide.com/habitat/sustainit/ and fill in the names of the people/businesses you think most deserve recognition in this category.
The Blaine County School District’s clean energy and facility improvements:
- Save money for the future and preserve the General Fund for teachers, students and classrooms
- Leverage local funds with federal grants and energy rebates
- Bring technology and clean energy curriculum to the classroom
- Serve as demonstration sites for future public buildings
What are some of the projects to date?
- Solar panels installed at Carey School through a government grant
- Energy efficient lighting installed at Wood River High School, Community Campus, Hemingway Elementary, Hailey Elementary, Bellevue Elementary, and Carey School. Community Campus, WRHS and Hemingway Elementary lighting upgrades paid for through a government grant
- Energy efficient, high-tech heating and ventilation utilizing ground source heat pumps installed at Carey, Bellevue, Hailey, WRHS, Silver Creek and Community Campus

- Over 83% of the contractors used are local
- The projects were guided with input from Blaine County School District’s Environmental Practices Committee
