This Week at Bellevue Elementary....

Warmer weather is here!  Students are reminded to dress appropriately for weather conditions.  Many students are leaving coats on the playground.  As a result, our LOST and FOUND collection is growing! Have your children look for lost items in the LOST and FOUND box located in our east wing.

Spring is a busy time for our community, so please take a moment to look through our news events below.  In addition, check your child's backpack daily for ongoing communication about events.

This week is our "Walk or Bike to School Challenge".  Help reduce our carbon footprint and get exercise at the same time by walking and biking to school.  Help Bellevue Elementary win the challenge!  Second and fourth graders have been fine tuning a wonderful Spring Music Concert for you this week.  Check the performance schedule below.  Bid for Good is starting this week, be sure to check the online event and support our BPA fundraiser to replace the "big toy" on our playground.  We have many great items to bid on.  And lastly, come join us for our noon Mileage Club Walk to the Grand Canyon  Wednesday for our final week. We have some miles to go!!!!  We can do it!!!!

Remember that you are still able to purchase a yearbook up until the last day of school.  However, if you want your child to participate in the autographing, they need purchased prior to our Barbeque / Fun and Fitness Day.  That way, your child will be able to collect autographs during the Bear Barbeque on May 31st. Our school secretary, Sharon Boyle, can help you with your purchase of a yearbook.

Please note that school will not be in session for students Friday, May 25th for Data Day, and Monday May 28th due to Memorial Day.

Bellevue Elementary 4th graders visited Boise Tuesday, May 15, and deepened their understanding of Idaho's history through a presentation and self-tour at Idaho's Historical Museum and a guided tour of Idaho's capitol building.  We were even able to meet Governor Butch Otter!  Students made Bellevue Elementary and Blaine County School District proud with excellent behavior, thoughtful questions, and much enthusiasm!

Bellevue Elementary ... is a Thoughtful Place

We at Bellevue Elementary School are committed to the safety of every student.  We put forth every effort to prevent bullying and promote kindness in our school.  Currently we have implemented a “Bucket Filling” program based on the book, “Have you filled a bucket today”, where students and staff are encouraged to write positive, kind statements about one another on a piece of paper and put it in the bucket in the hallway.  Each day, in the Month of April, Mrs. Martinez will pull a few out of the bucket and read them over the announcements.  We even have a bucket filling cheer!  Encouraging students to fill each other’s buckets is a proactive way to teach kindness.  Have you filled a bucket today?

** News Flash **
ISAT Tutorials available online.

As preparation for ISAT testing at Bellevue Elementary, we practice with ISAT Tutorials and Practice Tests to become familiar with testing formats. If parents would like to view tutorials with students, they are available online at the following address:

  http://isat.caltesting.org/tutorials/student/id.html

ISAT tests have begun and will continue through Friday, May 11.  Your child's teacher has the ISAT schedule and will be able to let you know exactly which days are testing days for your student's class. This varies by week. PLEASE try to schedule around testing for vacations, appointments, shopping, etc.  Students perform better on ISAT testing when they are in the testing environment with their own classmates and teacher.

Again, make sure that your child is well rested, with a good night's sleep, and eats a healthy breakfast before testing. Rest and feed your child's brain!

Spring Pictures
Pictures were  taken of all students on Friday, April 6th.  Do not send money at this time.  Your child's picture packet will be sent to you in a few weeks.  At that time you may purchase all, some, or none of the pictures!

Parent Teacher Conferences
Tuesday, March 06, 2012

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held
March 8th and 9th

Regular communication between parents,
teachers, and students is the key to success.

Bellevue Elementary's conferences will be held Thursday, March 8th, and Friday, March 9th.  As the 2nd trimester comes to a close, we celebrate the opportunity to collaborate with your child's teacher to discuss academic progress and goals. We invite you to take an active role in your conference. Here are a few conference questions you may want to ask about your child and our school.

  • What are my child's academic strengths?  What areas need improvement?
  • What specific things can I do to support my child and reinforce classroom lessons at home?
  • What are students expected to master by the end of the year?
  • Does my child stay on task well or need frequent reminders?
  • Has my child been developing good work habits?
  • What can I do over the summer to prevent the "summer slide" with academics?

There will be no school for students on parent teacher conference days.
