Welcome to the 1st grade! 

First Grade teachers at Hailey Elementary value camaraderie, teamwork, and innovation.  Our highest priority is the development of the whole child.  We nurture student progress by focusing on academic, emotional, and social success.  First Grade curriculum engages students in Reading Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, and Science.  In addition, we offer special enrichment courses in Music, Art, Physical Education , and Technology classes at Hailey Elementary.  Students attend these "special classes" weekly along with computer training and instructive Library skills.  We incorporate a Tribes Leaning Community process which enables students to build a sense of community in large and small group activities.  The Tribes process establishes a caring, trusting environment for cooperative learning and promotes mutual respect, active listening, appreciation and participation. Also this year we have become a "Leader In Me" School and our students are continuing to learn great habits. This program will develop character, leadership, improve academic achievement and unleash their talents. It honors students' worth and potential by creating a generation of leaders, on child at a time.

FIRST GRADE NEWS

First graders have been busy reading and writing! Please continue to read and practice sight words at home. Practice at home is always apparent in the classroom. We are working hard in math learning lots of new skills and fun math games. Keep an eye out at home for the homework pages so you can enjoy some math practice with your first grader! Please remember to send your child to school with a warm coat, gloves and a hat. It is starting to get cold at recess and the weather changes quickly this time of year. Thanks for all of the hard work you are doing with your first grader. We have an awesome group of children this year!
