Mrs. Nisson

Classes are scheduled to come to the library every week and
throughout the week when needed. We're open at 7:40 every
morning and after school until 3:00. Hailey Elementary library
has approximately 16,500 books. We extensively use a program
called Accelerated Reader which is a computerized program we
use to evaluate student's reading comprehension. Students read a
book in their ZPD (comfort zone), take an AR quiz on it,
and are then rewarded with points they accumulate over the
school year. Most of our books have matching AR quizzes your student can utilize in our AR program.
Accelerated Reader
is a reading program designed to be used with customary school
instruction in reading. It incorporates technology, incentives, and
individualized instruction based on heavy in-school reading
practice and immediate feedback. The goals are:
- To create substantial growth in student reading ability.
- To help students become more independent as readers and
learners.
- To contribute to problem-solving, thinking, and critical
learning skills.
- To make reading fun and help students develop a lasting
love of reading.
If you are wondering what our library collection contains and
what AR level the books are, you can easily do that by going to Parent
Home and clicking on
Destiny - School Libraries Online. There you can view
any Blaine County school library, and you can also build a
reading list of books you might be interested in.

We have a new feature of Renaissance Place. District wide, it's
called AR Enterprise. It gives us unlimited access to all the AR
quizzes made by Renaissance Learning Co. There are 118,00+
quizzes. Students may test on any available quiz.

Disclaimer:
All AR books have a Reading level and Interest
level. Some books might have a reading level of 3 but an interest level of Middle Grade. We use a new book level
readability formula called ATOS. Book levels are assigned each
book in the program based on a readability formula decided in
years and months. Book Levels do not analyze the suitability of
the content or the literary merit for an individual student. It
is the responsibility of the parent and teacher, along with the
student, to decide what content is appropriate for a particular
student.
