Welcome Back to Engineering Technology 2010-2011
News from TECH:
All the kids are back at work in Hailey Elementary's Engineering Technology class page. Notice something different? We have changed the name to simplify and help make clear what we do in TECH. We are now called Engineering Technology. Many times our class is confused with the computer lab where students learn how to use computers, keyboard, and software. Our class is an application of all the skills students learn at Hailey Elementary School. We use those skills to solve real problems as teams. We don't just do science experiments, or study math skills. We use them, however, to solve relevant problems. Whether we are building bridges, magnetic levitating cars, boats, airplanes, mars rovers, or learning to fly, we use our reading, math, writing, science, art, music, or computer skills to plan, design, build, test and evaluate our projects. ‘WE DO’ Comes to HES
Engineering Technology Class We have yet another project-based LEGO kit for our use this year! It's called WE DO, and it's cool. At the writing of this article, students from 3rd to 5th grade have been using the kit to learn how to program motors and sensors to operate a mechanical robot. Students follow computer directions to be drawn into the project then create a model invention to test. During the testing part, students may change one variable at a time, either on the robot or the program. This helps to learn a problem solving technique and delve deeper into the workings of the robot and program. We are also learning how something so entertaining can be helping learn math and science facts about machinery.
