Health Class......Cooking Light

This month, in Jill Baileys Health class, the students learned about nutrition.  They learned to read labels.  They each were assigned 3 fast food restaurants and found out how much FAT is in a combo meal.   Quite a shocker for some.  Dr. Andrea Girman spent an afternoon with the students and conducted a super market walk at Atkinsons.  They only  opened and tasted items that were "healthy".  The final week of class Suzanne Cannon, past owner of Chi Chi's and catering manager at the Community Campus, spent the day teaching 4 ways of serving pasta, emphasizing light and healthy.  She introduced to the students a French, Greek and Italian Pasta, using all fresh ingredients.  Now the students are ready to cook a meal at Home.

Senior Bowling Trip

This month SCAS held their Senior Appreciation Day at the Shoshone Bowling Alley.  Every year at this time the Bowling Alley opens its doors early for our students, complete with open menu at the snack bar.  Georgia was our high bowler, coming in at 162!!!!!!!!

Cooking Class

As a final for our cooking class we prepared lunch for the teachers and staff at WRMS.  We served Taco Appetizers. Chili Bread Bowls, Green Salad, and for dessert we offered a choice of Blueberry, Cherry, or Apple Tarts A La Mode.  We sold lunches for $7.00 which included a drink.  We would like to thank all of you who participated in our Luncheon.  You made it a success.  See you next year.

Door Decorating at WRMS

As you are all aware, SCAS has been holding a cooking class using the WRMS cooking room.  As luck would have it, we were able to join in on the "Let it Snow"  door decorating contest.  Being a cooking class, we constructed our door Decor out of FOOD!!!!!!!  We want to extend our thanks to  Mrs. Clark's Leadership class for all the votes.  With Pride, we accept our Prize of "Most Honorable Mention."  Thank You WRMS.

IRON CHEF CHRISTMAS DESSERT BAKE OFF

On Dec. 6, 2007, Jill Bailey's Cooking Class held their first annual Iron Chef Bake Off. The students researched and had to pick a recipe they had never cooked before. The outcome was a variety of Holiday Desserts that included an Upside Down Caramel Apple Pie, Gingerbread Cake with Maple Cream,I rish Cinnamon Apple Cake,Toll House Cookie Madness Delight, and Egg Nog Cream Puffs. Since we hold our cooking classes at WRMS, we picked our 6 judges from there. It was a tough job, but somebody had to do it. A big thank you to Beth Andrews, Jill Clark, Kristin Cassalia, Steve Poklemba, Fred Trenkle and Matt Wyneken for taking the time to taste it all. And the Winner is.................Upside Down Caramel Apple Pie by the team of Andrew Daigh and Lukus Sisiam.

We are the Dragons...

StudenteslThe students at Silver Creek Alternative School (SCAS) have a dynamic motto:  Own it, fix it, move on!

Our school offers an innovative and flexible learning environment to a limited number of students in grades 9 through 12 who don't thrive in a traditional school setting.  Our students must meet at least three state-mandated "at risk" factors.  They are appropriately referred through Wood River High School, and we are governed and abide by Blaine County School District policies.

Our small, dedicated staff focuses on each student's special gifts and needs.  Students receive a lot of individual attention to master the basics, while being given the opportunity to explore areas of learning that really appeal to them.  Our student's senior projects are wide-ranging and inspiring.

Many alternative learning experiences are available to SCAS students.  We encourage them to learn and be good citizens.  They are expected to participate in community service projects such as the Thanksgiving Food Drive, Souper Supper, and collaborative projects with the Sun Valley Center for the Arts.  Every year we publish a year book, do a major presentation of senior projects, and hold a graduation ceremony.

We take pride in our students' achievements and invite you to learn more about our dynamic school.
