9th Honors English and 10th Honors Literature -- Summer Reading and Assignments
9th Honors English and 10th Honors Literature
-New this year. Students will sign up for their regular English class. All students are eligible for Honors designation. Specified honors requirements must be fulfilled during the class to earn this designation on their transcript.
9th English, 10th Literature – (with Honors designation): Required summer reading and assignment. Students must see an English teacher to pick up this assignment and check out the book. Exam given and assignment collected the first week of school, regardless of when the student is enrolled in the class. Students are not eligible for Honors designation if they fail to complete this summer work. C

WRHS chess team wins 1st place at State!
Chess Club Advisor Adam Porth reports: "The high school chess team won 1st place in the K-12 section. We won 3rd place team trophy for 9th grade. Individual placements included Andrew Uriarte, 3rd place 9th grade and Kitt Connor, 2nd place 11th grade. Dexter Gannon, Kitt Connor, and Danny Mills led the attack for the K-12 section, and Chris Ellis', Nick Bruck's, and Andrew Uriarte's scores contributed to 9th grade team placement. In all, 18 kids participated, including 8 students who have never partipated in state competition. Previous team achievements include 1st place, Ogden 2007, 4th place, State Scholastics 2007, and 2nd place, State Scholastics 2006."

Local Resident To Bring a World of Good to Blaine County
Carey, Idaho – Brandi Hennefer has recently been appointed as the new local representative for EF Foundation for Foreign Study. As the International Exchange Coordinator for the Blaine county area, she will be facilitating opportunities for local families and schools to host talented, motivated high school students from nearly 40 countries wishing to experience life in America for a semester or a year.

This is the motto of a new organization at Wood River High School called Student Union. Every student is an automatic member and has a voice to be heard. A new zero-hour class, the Student Union Leadership Team, is representing the voices of all students.

Blacksnake Speech & Debate Tournament Results
Matt Gappmayer and Mark Estrebillo, two varsity members of the Wolverine Speech and Debate Team claimed three awards at last weekend’s Blacksnake Tournament on the ISU campus.
