Communications-Technical Professional Technical Education Program

What is this program?

The Communications-Technical Professional Technical Education Program is a unique four-year year program that blends multi-media with news writing and publishing to create a career path for students interested in journalism, web design, interactive media, and broadcast news.

Both print and broadcast journalists are required to learn and adhere to the style formatted by the Associated press, as well as the ethics that guide journalists to seek truth, act independently, and minimize harm.

Students in this Professional Technical Education Program will study multi-media and get firsthand experience at WBC, the high school TV station, and eventually program the morning news.  Also, students will be able to publish news, features, editorials, and columns in Wolverine Prints, the high school newspaper, as part of their print journalism study.

Who May Qualify?

The Communications-Technical Professional Technical Education Program is open to all students with a genuine interest in exploring opportunities that lead to careers in the world of print and broadcast journalism.

Course Description

This program includes courses for students who are interested in the field of publishing, television broadcasting, and interactive media.  Benefits to our students include:

• Participation in internships with local newspapers and/or TV shows.
• Direct participation in media coverage on campus.
• Participation in the national Journalism Education Association conference.
