Teaching Professional Technical Education Program

What is this program?

ImageThe Teaching Professional Technical Education Program, located in the Community Campus next door to Wood River High School, is a unique, one- to two-year program designed to prepare college or career bound students for a variety of careers in the education field:  elementary or secondary teaching, paraprofessional, or professor.

Professional Technical Education Program students team with local teachers in the Blaine County School District to learn the basics of all aspects of the teaching profession. Students begin in a classroom setting in the Community Campus building and then observe and assist in real classroom settings.

Students completing the Teaching Professional Technical Education Program, will be prepared to directly enter a paraprofessional job and/or continue with related advanced studies at college and university level.

Who May Qualify?

A student interest in exploring the career opportunities in the field of teaching may qualify to enter if he or she:

  • Is willing to commit to taking two classes per day for three trimesters during their junior or senior years.
  • Has maintained a good attendance record at WRHS.
  • Will provide his/her own transportation to and from local elementary schools three times per week.

This Professional Technical Education Program, is for students interested in education.  If you enjoy working with children, teaching others, counseling or coaching, then this program is for you.

This Professional Technical Education Program, includes courses for students who are interested in the field of teaching.  The program trainees study all aspects of teaching curriculum in the classroom:

  • Classroom discipline and management.
  • Learning styles and theories.
  • Lesson planning.
  • Education philosophies.
