Welcome to Wood River Middle School
We are the Wolverines...
Wood River Middle School (WRMS) is located in north Hailey, Idaho in the
Big Wood River Valley. Our school was constructed in 1996, and a
19,000 square feet addition was completed two years ago. Our school was
built to accommodate 850 students, and we currently serve 675 students.
Our school is comprised of grades 6-8, and our students participate in
interdisciplinary teams through each grade.
Our students start off their first WRMS year attending the Residential
Outdoor Environmental School to kick off their transition to middle school.
The students experience many scientific and environmental investigations
during the overnight outdoor experience. Students are housed in cabins
with teachers and high school student counselors. This program has been
successful for over 25 years.
Each grade level has two main interdisciplinary teams with core subject areas
in Math, Literature, Writing, Social Studies and Science. Each team has
interdisciplinary, project-based units that highlight the school year.
The core
curriculum teams are supported with many elective offerings. Art,
Crafts, Music, Tech, Keyboarding and Internet safety, P.E., GATE electives,
Leadership, Health, Foreign Languages, and Directed Study are available.
Many of our electives have progressively challenging curriculums as the students
advance in that subject area.
We also have a well-staffed student services team who serve English language
learners and students with special needs. Our test scores in these support
areas and for the school in general increased dramatically over the last two years.
We met our Federal and State Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)
goals for the 2005-2006 academic year.
