Library Policies and Procedures

The WRMS library is open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:45 p.m.  Students have access to the library before and after school and during lunch.  Students may also visit the library as "drop-ins" from other classes during the school day.

Our library uses flexible scheduling.  This means that teachers may bring students to the library as they feel students need help finding reading books or to work on class projects that require information resources.  Teachers always accompany their students when class time has been reserved.

Using Materials

  • Most library materials may be checked out for two weeks  (ten school days).  These materials may be renewed to extend the check-out time.  Late materials are fined at $.05 per school day.  Fines are not charged for weekends or holidays.
  • Other reference material may be checked out for one day.  These materials may also be renewed, if necessary.  The assigned fine is $.10 a day.
  • General encyclopedias may also be checked out.  They are available for checkout at the end of a school day and must be returned the next morning before school. The late fine is $.25 per day.
  • If books are lost or damaged beyond reasonable repair, students must reimburse the school for the purchase cost of the book, plus a small processing materials fee.  If a lost book is found and returned, all money is cheerfully refunded, up to the last day of the school year.

Use of Computers

Our library currently has ten computers available for students to use in online researching, AR quizzing, and browsing our library's online catalog. To use any computers in our school, all students must have an Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) on file.  Both student and parents must sign this AUP.  Any misuse of computers or related peripherals may result in a child losing computer privileges.  The Blaine County School District uses filtering software that will block student access to websites that may be disturbing or offensive.  Our library currently has 27 computers available for student use.  These include computer access to our On-line Electronic Catalog of books and materials.

Student Volunteers

Students who would like to work in the library are invited to apply in May for the next school year.  Preference is given to those who will register for all three trimesters.  Students need to have a strong work ethic, enjoy working with computers, and be well organized.  These volunteer opportunities are open only to 7th and 8th graders.   Generally, the library can provide these opportunities to 8 to 11 students, depending on their schedules.
