Using the PEN Tool in Illustrator
BACKGROUND: This is a somewhat more advanced exercise that will take you through drawing a wolverine logo using the pen tool. The Pen tool is great for drawing irregular vector shapes. Once you have the overall shape, you can add a fill and a stroke to your wolverine.
For this assignment we will be downloading a raster image (the wolverine head) and drawing or tracing over top of it so we will end up with a vector wolverine head or logo.
STEPS FOR COMPLETION:
- Download and save the WOLVERINE logo
- Open the wolverine in ILLUSTRATOR
- Select the wolverine head and change the opacity to 15%
- Lock the layer that the wolverine head is on
- Create a new layer for you to trace on
- Select the PEN tool (P) and start tracing the wolverine head. (This tool will take some time to get used to, you will have to make at least several attempts before you get the hang of it)
- Add a color and a fill of your choice to the wolverine head
- WHen you are finished, FILE > EXPORT you design as a .jpg and upload to your wiki folder.

Vector Graphic Design
Vector Graphic Design

Background:
There are two main types of graphics -- Raster and Vector. Raster graphics are images or graphics that are determined by individual pixels. Like images, raster files will loose quality when enlarged. Vector graphics or images are mathematically determined and will not loose quality when enlarged. Graphics that are raster graphics are created in applications similar to photoshop. Vector images are created in programs such as Illustrator.
