Superintendent - GwenCarol Holmes
Following a nationwide search, Dr. GwenCarol Holmes became Blaine County School District Superintendent in July, 2014. Prior to this, Holmes served as Chief Academic Officer for Alexandria City Schools in Virginia, Chief Operating Officer of the Success for All Foundation, and assistant professor at Johns Hopkins School of Education overseeing research for the Center for Research and Reform in Education in Maryland. Holmes also had a long career of teaching and administration in several schools in Kansas. Dr. Holmes holds a BS in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Curriculum and Instruction from Kansas State University, as well as a Master’s in Education Administration and a Doctorate of Education in Educational Administration from Wichita State University. Holmes and her husband have two grown children.
Assistant Superintendent - John Blackman
John Blackman was hired in 1984 as a secondary Art teacher after receiving his BA from Montana State University. In 1998 he received his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from the University of Idaho and became an Assistant Principal at Wood River High School in 2001. In 2007 Mr. Blackman took the helm as the Principal of Wood River High School and after receiving his Educational Specialist Degree from the University of Idaho in 2010, he was hired in his current role as the Assistant Superintendent for the Blaine County School District.
Director of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning - Angie Martinez
Angie Martinez has been a public school educator for over 23 years in both Alaska and Idaho. After earning her Bachelor's Degree at Idaho State University, she spent 10 yeas in Alaska before relocating to Hailey, Idaho. Her teaching experience includes regular classroom in grades K-8, special education in grades PK-12, and GATE in grades K-12. She was also a Reading Consultant in Alaska and an HLM Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes Consultant while teaching in Blaine County. Mrs. Martinez received her Master's Degree in Educational Leadership at the University of Idaho and most recently served seven years as the Principal of Bellevue Elementary School, which she cherished beyond measure. Angie is now eagerly looking forward to working with administrators, teachers, and schools across our respected and progressive school district as she begins her service as the Director of Curriculum, Teaching, and Learning.
Director of Student Services - Debi Gutknecht
Debi Gutknecht has been a member of the Blaine County School District since 1997. She moved to Bellevue after living in Las Vegas, Nevada for twenty-seven years, where she was a special education teacher. In Blaine County, Debi continued her work in that area with special emphasis in the Reading Clinic at Hailey Elementary. She has also served as a BCSD Summer School Principal and Cognitive Coach, and a nation-wide presenter for Lindamood-Bell Learning Processes. Debi received her undergraduate degree from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in Elementary Education and Special Education, a Master’s Degree from Lesley College, and an Education Specialist Degree from the University of Idaho.
Director of Technology - Teresa McGoffin
Teresa was the first technologist hired by the district in 1996 to bring Internet and email to all schools. As the Network Administrator she has been invaluable in expanding our infrastructure to include phones in every classroom, ubiquitous Internet and robust wireless. She serves on the Safety and Security Task Force and is passionate about the safety of our staff and students. She has been a leader in bringing in new technologies such as virtual servers and electronic curriculum to the district. When Teresa came to Idaho via Seattle in 1995, she was the first Instructional Technology Specialist for the College of Southern Idaho's Twin Falls campus. She has taught computer courses since the early 80's and has offered enrichment courses at the CSI Hailey campus.
Testing and Data Coordinator - Marcia Grabow
Marcia Grabow has been a member of the Blaine County School District since 2005, teaching math and physics at Wood River High School for nine years and becoming Testing and Data Coordinator in August, 2014. She holds a B.S. in Physics from MIT, a Ph.D. in Materials Science from Stanford University, and a M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Idaho. Marcia worked as a research scientist at AT&T Bell Laboratories for 14 years before moving to the Wood River Valley. Her daughter graduated from Wood River High School.
Director of Buildings and Grounds - Howard Royal
Howard Royal began his work with the School District in October of 2006. He brings 25 years of experience in the construction field to his department. Howie worked as a field electrician for 15 years, and he was a supervisor for 10 years. He graduated from Carey High School and continues to reside in Carey with his family.
Director of Communications - Heather Crocker
Heather Crocker received a BA from the College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio. She studied art history in Austria and New York before moving to Blaine County in 1995 to work at the Sun Valley Center for the Arts. She served as the Center's Director of Education and Humanities for eight years. Subsequently she was the Executive Director for the Blaine County Education Foundation for over five years. She was hired as the Communications Director in March, 2011. She and her husband are the proud parents of two Blaine County School District students.
Director of Transportation - Rex Squires
Rex has been involved with student transportation since 1985. As Transportation Director since 1993, he draws upon past experience as a bus driver, driver trainer, dispatcher, and district liaison. Rex received recognition in 2000 as Idaho’s first Certified Director of Pupil Transportation as determined by the National Association of Pupil Transportation. He has served the Idaho Association of Pupil Transportation as Board Member, Vice President, and President. Rex graduated in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts degree from Boise State University.
District Program Coordinator - Aaron Bronson
Aaron Bronson joined the Blaine County School District in 2002 as a Special Education teacher at Wood River Middle School. Two years later, Aaron relocated to Oregon where she continued working as a Special Education teacher. She transitioned into school administration and school development while in Oregon and worked with a team to design and open a new magnet school. In 2013, Aaron returned to Blaine County School District as the principal of Bellevue Elementary and then became the District Program Coordinator. Aaron holds a B.S. from Utah State University in the area of Special Education, M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Lesley University, and Administrative Licensure from University of Oregon. She is a graduate of Wood River High School and has two children attending Alturas Elementary.
Human Resources Manager - Shannon Maza
Shannon graduated from Chapman University with a Masters in Human Resources Management and has worked in the Human Resources field for the last 23 years. She recently held the position, HR Director of North America, with a global appliance company based out of Orange County, California. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her son and (since relocating to Hailey) familiarizing herself with the area including enjoying all the outdoor activities the Valley has to offer. She is very excited to be residing in Blaine County and to be working with and supporting the BCSD employees, families and community.
Finance Manager - Bryan Fletcher
Bryan Fletcher received his Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from the University of Phoenix. He later went on to earn his Masters of Business Administration from the University of Colorado – Colorado Springs. Prior to working for the Blaine County School District he started his career in school finance in 2008 as the Business Manager with the Kuna Joint School District. Prior to this he worked in the asset management and leasing industry spending 17 years with GE Capital, and five years with Design Space. Over the last eight years he has been an instructor with the University of Phoenix teaching in the disciplines of Accounting and Finance at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
