Ms. Caroline Grist

Welcome to First Grade at Hemingway STEAM School! If you love to design, create, investigate, or ask a lot of questions about the world around you, come on over! I strive to build my classroom around opportunities for students to grow personally and academically. Every day is an opportunity to apply newly acquired skills, but not just in reading, writing, or math. Students learn to code everything from Ozobots to Spheros and use the Engineering Design Process to approach problems or tasks. We also integrate the Arts to deepen understanding of both the Arts and content.

I have a degree in Horticulture from Virginia Tech, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching from Westminster College in Utah. When the season is right, my students are in the garden weekly, learning about pollinators, types of plants, and how to take care of a garden. I can also be found in my own garden or on my friend's farm. I am passionate about growing food, teaching others how to garden, and helping our local community. When I'm not gardening, you can find me climbing, hiking, biking, or skate skiing. I feel fortunate enough to live in the Wood River Valley, where I can combine all the things I love!
