I feel privileged to be a part of Bellevue Elementary. I am the special educator for the extended resource program. Our program teaches a wonderful variety of skills supporting students with special needs. Some of what our team teaches are academics, life skills, self-esteem building, and behavior interventions. We provide personal care services for specific students. We also provide inclusion support in the general education setting. Each student’s program is individualized based on his/her needs.
My childhood years were spent in Seattle and Port Townsend, Wa. One of many memories was hiking around Mt. Ranier, which is probably why I have lived in the Wood River Valley for 30+ years. Expectedly, I enjoy visiting the ocean during the summer months. That must mean I love the rain as well.
I returned back to college later in life to attend BSU in a pursuit of a Bachelors of Arts degree in Elementary Education K-8 with a Special Education Endorsement K-12. Later, I acquired a Reading Endorsement for K-12. I began my teaching career at Wood River Middle School in the special education department for three years. After, I moved into the Extended Resource Program where I have remained passionate about teaching students with special needs. Some of us are just “wired” for teaching special education.
