Mr. Swanson

The Wood River Valley has been my home for the last 25 years. What brought me to the district initially was the opportunity to teach in a rural K - 12 school - in 1991, I accepted a position as a Language Arts and Reading teacher at the Carey School. I was intrigued by the challenge of teaching multiple grade levels (in this case grades 7 - 10) in a unique setting. My previous teaching assignment was far removed from Carey, Idaho - a four year stint as a high school English and U.S. History teacher at the Pennington School, a boarding school outside of Princeton, New Jersey. Several years later, I transferred from Carey to Wood River Middle School where I have enjoyed teaching both Language Arts and Humanities as well as coaching football. Several years ago I earned a masters degree in Educational Administration from the University of Scranton. In addition, I have a bachelor of arts degree with a dual major in English and History from Shepherd University and an bachelors in Education from the University of Wyoming. My wife Amy is a math teacher at Wood River High School and all three of our kids have attended school in the district. In addition to teaching at the middle school, I am currently a varsity football coach at Wood River High School and serve as a volunteer firefighter with the Hailey Fire Department.
