Recognizing Excellence: Danica Robrahn
The BCSD Board of Trustees is thrilled to recognize Danica Robrahn, who teaches art at Hemingway STEAM School!
The following accolade was submitted by Scott Slonim:
“Danica Robrahn is an incredible art teacher at Hemingway STEAM School. I have watched for years the amount of time, effort and care she puts into her craft. She spends so much time getting the students’ art boxes ready, cooking in the kiln, and preparing amazing lessons. Danica also really focuses on being upbeat and positive when the students are in her class, making them feel loved and inspiring them to do their best.
Danica puts a lot of the student’s artwork on a website called Artsonia, which allows family and friends to see the artwork made by the children. It also enables them to buy the artwork placed on T-shirts and cups and other items. I had known about Artsonia, but had never experienced it until this year when my son entered kindergarten. It makes him feel like a professional artist, as his art is published! We have already bought a T-shirt with a drawing of his new cat on it and words at the top. He is so proud of it!
Every elementary student at Hemingway STEAM School is hugely benefiting from having Danica as an art teacher!”
Note: Artsonia is used as an assessment tool and a way for connecting with families. Families are not required to participate. It is our understanding that 20% of purchases come back to the art room at EHSS to use for art supplies for the students. The money accrues in the school’s Artsonia account, and we can request that it be turned into an electronic gift card to purchase supplies. It has also been great to purchase items for the art room that we would otherwise be unable to purchase.
