Please register by Thursday, February 15. Use this link to register.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be an educator? The Blaine County School District invites interested community members to become an “Educator for a Day.” This event presents a unique opportunity to find out what it’s like to be a teacher, principal, or support professional. Join us for an inside look at our schools, classrooms, and the professional lives of our educators in Blaine County.
What would this involve?
This program allows individuals from the community to experience the school day guided by a host educator. "Guest educators" can do as much or as little as they would like. If you have a particular subject that you are fond of, you can indicate that on the sign up form below. If you are curious about one grade level or one school, you can indicate that on the sign up form as well. As the “guest educator” participants can choose to perform duties such as teaching class, lunch and hall duty, and supervising recess. The day will begin when the first bell rings, and end after lunch.
What does a typical schedule look like?
7:30 a.m. Arrive at your assigned school (elementary)
8:00 a.m. Arrive at your assigned school (secondary)
8:00 a.m. Check in at the front desk, find your classroom and meet your host educator.
8:30 a.m. Secondary school begins. Join in the class activities.
11:30-12:30 Lunch with your host educator.
How do I sign up?
Our educators in Blaine County are excited to share their day-to-day experiences. To join them, please contact Heather Crocker at 208-578-5005 or sign up here.
What are the next steps?
After you have signed up, you will receive an email confirming your registration. On Monday, February 19, you will receive an email introducing your host educator, who will contact you regarding specific plans for Friday, February 23.
Who has participated in the past and what was their experience like?
Paul Hartzell (pictured), a former Major League Baseball player, demonstrated the math of baseball in Mark Gasenica's math class at Wood River Middle School during last year's event. Students enjoyed meeting him and learning about his career both on and off the baseball diamond.
Why do this?
"In a completely rational society, the best of us would be teachers and the rest of us would have to settle for something else." Lee Iacocca
