Hemingway Full STEAM Ahead
Hemingway STEAM School engineering design teacher Scott Slonim was recently awarded several grants for innovative technology in his classroom.
The STEM Action Center awarded Mr. Slonim and his students a PK12 Innovative STEM Project grant for Snap Circuit Arcade Kits and Snap Circuit Beginner Kits as well as a FabSlam grant for a 3D printer. Hemingway STEAM School Principal Tish Short wrote, “We now have two 3D printers in our Engineering Design workshop at Hemingway. Currently, our Elementary students have been building battery operated cars and making the body of their cars with the 3D printer. Additionally, our 6th grade Science/Math teacher, Mr. Quaderer has two 3D printers in his classroom maker space that is in constant use for various projects.”
Mr. Slonim wrote, “I wanted to go to the STEM Action Center because while my students are using the 3D printer in class for some great things, I'd like to learn a lot more so I can teach them way more. I'm so excited!”
Other grants have come from the Elizabeth A. Lynn Foundation and Cox Charities for Lego MindStorm EV3 robots. All of the grants and projects will benefit all students at Hemingway STEAM School. Thank you to these wonderful organizations for supporting STEAM at Hemingway School.
