STUDENT SPOTLIGHT
Patricia Duggan
Student Works On Her Crafts
By Emilee Mae Struss for The Weekly Sun
Born and raised in Tucker, Ga., Patricia Duggan moved to the Wood River Valley last year and will graduate with the class of 2019.
“The first year was difficult because of academics,” Duggan said. “Some things I had already learned and other things were completely new that my classmates had already covered.”
Duggan carried a 4.0 GPA in Georgia and ended this year with a 3.4 GPA. Her strengths in school lean strongly toward artistic endeavors.
“I don’t care for math; it’s a very challenging subject for me,” Duggan said. “I am much more interested in English and creative subjects.”
Next year she will take college English, AP Art and AP Environmental Science. She is currently working on a comic strip and likes to sketch people.
“My inspiration comes from Jamie Hewlett,” Duggan said. “My artwork is similar to that style.”
Hewlett is the artist for the band Gorillaz, which is a virtual band with comic figure representations.
Duggan also makes cellphone cases based off of a Japanese embellishment style. The phone cases are made using resin, a sticky organic substance, which fills a specific mold and eventually is made into silicone.
She hopes to start a small business selling the phone cases. This summer, Duggan is working on refining her phone case craft and started a new job in the nursery at Webb Landscaping in Ketchum. She lives in Ketchum with her father, Patrick Duggan, and her brother, PJ Duggan. Upon graduation, she hopes to attend a community college in California and become a published author.
“That’s the goal,” said Duggan. “To start off simple by attending a community college and taking advantage of the time to develop my craft.”
