Hailey Elementary Library Celebrates Reading
Stories of the Titanic, Dogs With Jobs and Daredevil Sports are just some of the new titles that Hailey students are eager to check out thanks to a grant from the Idaho Commission for Libraries. Due to the effort of Hailey Elementary librarian Marilyn Baybutt, students have said goodbye to hundreds of outdated dusty titles and are cracking the new spines of many more brand new books. Mrs. “B” is busy rearranging shelves to align with student interests and redesigning the library with a student-centered focus.
The Idaho Commission for Libraries awarded $182,000 in grant funding to 39 school libraries for the 2018-19 school year. Each school library received between $2,000 and $5,000. Hailey Elementary received a grant for $5,000 with the school matching 25% for a total of $6,250. This funding ensures that all students, preschool through grade 5 will receive at least three books a week to check out and take home.
Like many elementary schools, the library is the hub of Hailey Elementary, where students can pursue their passions and discover new inspiration. Students visit the library with their class at least once a week and many students spend time at the library before and after school.
