Tree Lab
Hemingway School is surrounded by several varieties of interesting and common trees. One aspect of teaching students about becoming aware of their environment is by practicing observation skills.
Students in Mrs. Thoreson’s 4th grade class are exploring tree identification by looking at the unique leaf characteristics of five tree species. Students then apply the observed characteristics of their leaves in a systematic way to help them identify the trees present on the Hemingway campus. Being able to identify the types of trees that exist in their environment is one skill that helps students become good observers and gain an appreciation for their surroundings.
