Our 5th graders were very fortunate the first week in October to spend their days at Idaho Base Camp - Swiftsure campus. They searched the Big Wood River for life, finding frogs, water striders, snails, and other river life. Some caught a glimpse of a bull elk wondering through the beautify property. All learned to: distinguish between biotic and abiotic, build a fire from just tinder (No. We did not light it); worked cooperatively to build shelters, and documented some observations and experiences in personal journals.
The students practiced and embraced the 3 IBC goals: Personal responsibility, Courage, and Respect for all.
