SUMMER LEARNING BEGINS
Elementary students across the Blaine County School District picked up their bright blue Summer Learning Backpacks during the last week of school. Students will jump into summer with new books and supplies, along with their school-issued Chromebooks to provide opportunities for continued learning over the summer. Students will engage in the summer learning activities on a schedule that is convenient for their families as we transition from a spring of distance learning to being back together again in the fall.
The backpacks were filled with books for summer reading, pencils, journals, sidewalk chalk, jump ropes, dice, cards and a special donation from the Sun Valley Museum of Art (SVMoA) (through the generosity of donors Kay Hardy and Gregory Kaslo); an art supply kit with watercolors, sketch pad, eraser, glue, and colored pencils.
In addition to the books and art supplies, teachers added their own special items and activities for their students to enjoy over the summer. There was great joy in the faces of students, parents, and teachers when they got to see one another while collecting their Summer Learning Backpacks, even behind masks and with social distancing!
Each school is also promoting a fun summer reading promotion project to encourage students to read over the summer. Community and public libraries are bridging the summer reading with additional opportunities for children over the next three months. We thank our community for supporting BCSD students during these challenging times and look forward to returning together on August 17th!
