Making Math Delicious
Wood River High School's math department celebrated Pi Day with pie and a school-wide celebration of math. All students were invited to participate in various math challenges including Pi memorization and Pi trivia. 39 students attempted to recite digits from memory while their classmates enjoyed a slide of pie and cheered for them. 3 of the 39 were able to recite over 100 digits from memory. Math teacher Doug Stouffer wrote, "Exploring the number Pi crosses educational boundaries according to math ability. Students from Advanced Placement Calculus to Algebra are encouraged to learn more about Pi the number and the symbol." Stouffer also thanked the Blaine County Education Foundation and Power Engineers for sponsoring the event.
