State Champs
Wood River High School’s Future Career and Culinary Leaders of America (FCCLA) Culinary Arts team took 1st place at the State FCCLA Conference in Boise, Idaho, on April 4-6, 2018.
The team consisted of Sydney Roberts, Aspen Vincent and Audrey Williams. The team competed against over twenty culinary teams from across the state. Teacher Joyce Pratt wrote, “The FCCLA culinary arts program inspires students with challenging cooking techniques and menus.” Students qualified by winning at the FCCLA District IV competition held at College of Southern Idaho where the team also took first place. Pratt continued, “This empowered the team to work hard and prepare for state competition.”
The students received gold medals and a small monetary scholarship toward the Culinary Institute of America. FCCLA is one of the largest and oldest national Career Technical student organizations. Through involvement in Certified Technical Education programs and FCCLA, students develop skills for life through: character development, creative and critical thinking, interpersonal communication, practical knowledge, and career preparation. Since 2005, when the FCCLA culinary competitions began, this is the thirteenth year Wood River High School students have earned 1st place in District IV and the seventh time WRHS students have received 1st place in the state competition.
