District Thanks Staff, Parents and First Responders
Wood River Middle School students and staff were evacuated from the building on Thursday, April 26 when staff discovered smoke near the staff lounge. Thank you to staff who followed evacuation procedures and organized the parent reunification. Thank you to students who followed instructions and were patient during the evacuation. Thank you to parents for their patience while staff ensured the safety and reunification of over 760 students. And special thanks to the Hailey Police Department, Hailey Fire Department and Wood River Fire and Rescue for their quick and professional response to the evacuation. The smoke came from a motor on a heat pump. There were no open flames or fire, the building was ventilated and school resumed the next day.
Principal Fritz Peters wrote to parents, “Thank you for your patience yesterday during our evacuation due to smoke in the building. Our staff responded professionally and really exhibited their skills, and our students were great and very cooperative. Reunification is always the hardest part during a crisis, and I appreciate all of you for your assistance. The Fire department, Police department and district support teams were of great assistance. It is an honor to work in this community.”
