Students Explore SNRA
For the 44th time, during the 4thweek in September the sixth grade teachers and Wood River Middle School staff are again offering the overnight Residential Outdoor Environmental School (R.O.E.S.) for all sixth grade students.
Since 1975, our program has proven to be one of the most successful and longest running outdoor educational programs of its kind in Idaho. It offers the sixth-grade students a chance to study the environment in an outdoor setting as they conduct chemical analysis of the riparian community, explore wilderness survival and orienteering, problem-solving global environmental concerns, and engage in team building activities during their overnight stay at Cathedral Pines.
Goals for Environmental School
- R.O.E.S. will increase the awareness of ecological principles that govern the environment.
- R.O.E.S. will introduce the techniques of safe and ethical outdoor behavior.
- R.O.E.S. will allow students to experience problem-solving and decision-making processes directly related to wider global concerns.
- R.O.E.S. will enhance independent and collaborative thinking.
- R.O.E.S. will promote communication, participation, and environmental education in the community.
- R.O.E.S. will promote the adoption of a “personal” environmental ethic.
