First of Its Kind
Alturas Elementary students launched one of the first student-created Google Expeditions. 4th-grade students in Kelly Michalec’s class identified places they love in the Wood River Valley and then researched and wrote about those places. Through Virtual Reality students can visit the Big Wood River, Bald Mountain, and the Sun Valley Lodge all from the comfort of their classroom. Technology Innovation Specialist Paul Zimmerman photographed the places and then assembled the Google Expedition. Soon, students across the world will be visiting the Wood River Valley virtually thanks to the 4th-grade students at Alturas Elementary. Google, yes, that Google, states, “While nothing replaces hopping on a bus for a field, trip. Expeditions provides an unparalleled opportunity for supplemental learning. Expeditions brings immersive computing to schools, which brings abstract concepts to life and gives students a deeper understanding of the world beyond the classroom.” Google Expeditions Pioneer Program will bring a pilot for Augmented Reality to Blaine County classrooms later in April.
