District Remains Committed to Helping Every Student Graduate
When our students graduate from high school, they leave with a diploma that represents the high standards of public education in Blaine County. We go above and beyond the state of Idaho’s requirements. Our Board commitment and professional staff match our community’s expectation for all our students: every student will know the state standards and also be inspired, engaged, educated and empowered. Students have a full array of elective classes, clubs and activities that offer pathways for pursuing their passions. These opportunities enable a student to succeed both in the classroom and outside of it.
We have previously had a steady increase in the four-year graduation rate and a closing of the gap between student groups. In 2018 we had a small dip in the graduation rate and an increase in the achievement gap between student groups. While this does not qualify as a trend, it is a signal that we must remain vigilant when it comes to helping every student graduate. Each student is an individual and they need an individual plan in order to succeed. We’ve successfully addressed this challenge in the past and we will do it again.
The graduation dip included students who needed additional individual support to meet the graduation requirements. Of the 28 students that did not graduate from WRHS, ten have returned to school to finish their high school diploma. We fully support those students; a high school diploma is worth more than a district’s graduation rate. Each child is important in our community and because of the support of our community, we have the resources to address this. We will continue to devote resources to meet student needs.
Our staff, and the relationships they build with their students, from Kindergarten through graduation, are central to students’ success. The next time you see an educator, please thank them for helping every student graduate. And the next time you see a student, remind them they are the recipients of Blaine County’s greatest gift for their future - a high school diploma.
