Board Seeks Feedback on Proposed 2022-23 Calendar

The Blaine County School District Board of Trustees would like the community’s feedback on its proposed 2022-23 school year calendar.

Community members may access the proposed calendar at this link. Para ver el calendario propuesto en español, haga clic aquí.

The proposed calendar was developed by the BCSD Calendar Committee, which began working in September 2021 with representation from parents, teachers, administrators, and community members. The committee held four public meetings and engaged in discussions centered on striking a balance among the varying needs of students, families, staff, and the community at large.

The committee aimed to accomplish the following:

  • Follow the board’s charge to create a calendar that prioritized supporting student achievement.
  • Create a common schedule, moving all schools to a standard trimester schedule. Committee members believed that doing so would provide greater clarity, consistency, and opportunities for professional development and instructional planning.
  • Ensure a start date that meets the needs of families while ensuring the district would have access to emergency funding if needed, per state statutes. The proposed calendar would start the school year the Wednesday before Labor Day.
  • Maintaining the current length of holiday breaks, including Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break, and Spring Break.
  • Providing adequate Professional Learning Community (PLC) time, allowing teachers and staff to engage in meaningful professional development. This, ultimately, positively affects the quality of education students receive.

The proposed calendar also reflects feedback provided by staff through a recent survey. Haga clic aquí para ver los resultados de la encuesta en español.
