Students Rise to the Challenge
Students at Hailey Elementary rose to the challenge posed by 5th grade teachers MaryGin Barron, Matt Nelson, Jenica Alexander and Kristine Barsotti.
Jenica Alexander wrote, “Here was the challenge posed to our 5th grade students 2 months ago:
Read four of the Young Reader’s Choice books, and you will be invited to a party celebrating the books in April. At the party, you will eat food that relates to the books, play games that are inspired by the books, and you will be able to vote for your favorite book. As a bonus, if you read all the books on the Young Readers’ Choice list, you will become a “Special Guest” at the party. "Special Guests" will be invited to the library for a top secret after-party event.
About 75 students took on this challenge and attended the celebration. We have over 20 "Special Guests." This is a fantastic success considering the wide reading range of students in our classrooms. We have students in 5th grade that are on Individual Education Plans and are reading at a 1st grade reading level, all the way up to students that are reading at the college level.
We are excited and proud of our students and we enjoyed sharing this fun, joyful experience our amazing Hailey Elementary School "family" of students, parents, and teachers.”
