Music for All has selected WRHS Junior Brandon Enders and Orrie DeShields, who will be a freshman during the 2021-22 school year, to serve as members of the Bands of America (BOA) Honor Band at the event.
Enders, a bass drum player, and DeShields, a baritone saxophone player, were selected from hundreds of applicants across the nation for membership in this prestigious national honor band.
“We are so proud of the hard work and dedication displayed by Brandon Enders and Orrie DeShields to reach this remarkable achievement,” said Patrick Herb, band director at Wood River High School and Middle School. “These two young musicians are a testament to the Blaine County School District music program and exemplify the Wolverine motto to inspire, engage, educate and empower.”
Enders and DeShields will spend a week in southern California rehearsing with a 300-piece national ensemble with winds, percussion and a flag and dance team, under the direction of Richard Saucedo. Saucedo is a composer, conductor and retired director of the national champion Carmel (Indiana) High School marching band.
The week will culminate in performances at the Tournament of the Roses Bandfest and Disneyland, followed by a featured appearance in the 2022 Rose Parade. The 5.5-mile parade will be televised worldwide on New Year’s Day with a theme of “DREAM. BELIEVE. ACHIEVE.”
“To be selected for this opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for students, and a testament to their excellence and achievements,” said Saucedo. “The Rose Parade is one of our country’s national pageantry treasures. The 2022 Honor Band members are ambassadors of America’s scholastic music and arts programs, as well as their schools and communities. Congratulations to Brandon and Orrie on this fantastic accomplishment and recognition.”
Brandon Enders is the child of Robyn and Ben Enders and Orrie DeShields is the child of Becky and Mitch DeShields.
