Inspired Students
Over 230 Wood River Middle School (WRMS) students attended Residential Outdoor Environmental School (ROES) at Cathedral Pines Camp north of Ketchum. WRMS teachers plan, produce and teach or help facilitate a series of lessons based on field science, wilderness survival and global awareness that incorporate language arts, social studies, science and math. "Outdoor environmental education is often one of the most memorable learning experiences our students have," said ROES Director Tod Gunter.
Gunter continued, “For many students, ROES is the first time they have the opportunity to attend an overnight camp. For all of the students, this is the first time they come together from their elementary schools and begin to see themselves as part one school, the Wood River Middle School. ROES teaches valuable science, language arts, math and social studies content. It also builds a strong bond among the students, as well as between students and teachers. The lessons learned here continue in the classroom throughout the year.”
By partnering with local nonprofits like the Environmental Resource Center and WOW Students, the camp continues to provide students with an outdoor education experience unique to Blaine County. Thank you to the staff, partners, parents and students who make this program possible.
