School Board and Public ~ Work Session on the 2019-2020 Budget
Thursday, January 17, 6:00 p.m.
Community Campus, Minnie Moore Room
1050 Fox Acres Rd., Hailey
The Blaine County School District Board of Trustees invite the community to join the Trustees in providing suggestions and developing options for next year’s budget at a Work Session on Thursday, January 17 at 6:00 p.m. at the Community Campus Minnie Moore Room, 1050 Fox Acres Rd., Hailey.
Board Chairman Rob Clayton stated, “As we initiate a new budgeting cycle, we want the community to provide insight into their funding priorities. We would appreciate learning what our constituents value in public education and associated extracurricular activities. We have a goal of funding all our schools equitably and meeting all State requirements at a minimum. We are asking for public input and advice to help shape the guiding principles we will use for next year’s budget.”
The Board plans a brief presentation on projected revenues and expenses, as well as an update on the financial impact of the Supplemental Levy passed by voters in March 2018. The remainder of the Work Session will be small group discussions led by facilitators, with one Trustee listening into each group discussion. Comments and discussion will be recorded and a summary will be shared with the audience by the Trustees at the end of the Session.
Please attend and join the Board of Trustees in planning for the future. This Session is the first step in the budgeting process and it begins with public input. Then, on January 22, 2019, in an open, public meeting, the Trustees will develop guiding principles for the budget and direct the administration to develop a budget that reflects these priorities. The Board will consider the needs of students including closing the achievement gap, state statutory obligations, and the needs of students, staff, and the results of this community input when establishing priorities. Final decisions about the budget will be made at Board meetings in May and June.
Board Chairman Clayton stated, “We look forward to working with the public as we begin the budgeting process for the next school year.”
