Policy Committee and Board of Trustees Consider Cell Phone Policy
The use of cell phones has increasingly impacted learning at the middle school and high school classroom and school environment. In order to limit the impact of cell phones from disrupting the learning environment, the Blaine County School District's Policy Committee will consider policy related to student use of cell phones during the school day. (Read the proposed policy here.)
How does policy work? There are three steps: 1) Proposed policies are considered first by a committee of staff, principals, parents and teachers in an open public meeting. 2) Proposed policy goes to the Board of Trustees for consideration at a regular monthly meeting. 3) Proposed policy is considered by the Board of Trustees for final approval at a regular monthly meeting. There is an opportunity for public comment at each meeting. Public comment is limited to three minutes, read more here.
The policy committee meeting is Monday, April 30 at 5:30 p.m. at the District office, 118 W. Bullion. When is the next opportunity to voice your opinion? The Board of Trustees will look at the policy on Tuesday, May 8, 6:00 p.m., which provides scheduled time for public comment. The Board will then consider the policy for a decision at the next regular meeting on Tuesday, June 12.
Superintendent Holmes states, “We want to make sure that our community is aware that this policy is being considered and that the policy committee and Board of Trustees are able to hear from a wide array of the public, including students, parents, teachers and other community members who work with our students.”
Can't make the meetings? Members of the public can submit an email by noon this Friday in advance of the Board meeting next Tuesday, May 8. Please include your name, address and phone number in your email and send it to the Board Clerk, Amanda LaChance, at amandalachance@blaineschools.
