• Allows students to demonstrate understanding, knowledge, and ability to apply their learning
• Promotes student ownership of learning
• Informs students, teachers, and parents on individual student growth and proficiency
• Aligns with district adopted standards, curricula, and instruction
• Guides teachers to tailor and adjust instruction in response to the needs of students
• Relies on a variety of formats
• Measures the effectiveness of curricula, instruction, courses, and/or programs in the district
• Is an ongoing process that encourages reflection on best practices
