Fractions Take Center Stage
How do students demonstrate that they understand how to add, subtract, multiply and divide fractions? In Greg Gvozdas’ 6th grade math class, students collaborate in teams to present a skit on fractions. Gvozdas wrote, “The Fraction Skit is a fun way to make sure the students understand fraction concepts. They need a recognizable real world plot, and have a few fraction requirements they must incorporate into their skit. In addition to performing the skits, they make a poster displaying their math. It is a quick two-three day in-class project that allows me to see if they truly understand fractions.” Students were highly engaged while planning their skits at the Wood River Middle School library.
