Degrees and Certifications:

BA from University of Iowa K-8 Teacher certification ABCTE Masters in English as a New Language from Boise State

Ms. Ellen Nasvik

I graduated from University of Iowa in 1990 with a degree in Art. In addition to teaching, I work as a concrete artist and my work includes the wolverine in front of Wood River High School, the mutton buster at the Hailey information building, and various sculptures in the skate park.  Before teaching, I worked for a variety of local non-profits doing social justice work, including eight years for the Advocates for Survivors of Domestic Violence helping to form the programs that exist today. In 2010 I took a job as an ENL paraprofessional at Alturas Elementary working with kindergarten through fifth-grade supporting students of all ability levels with their academics. While working at Alturas I received my K-8 certification and found a place as part of the dual immersion team at Wood River Middle School. In 2020 I finished my Masters in English as a New Language from Boise State University. After teaching dual immersion seventh grade social studies for seven years at the Wood River Middle School, I decided to move to Carey to teach English as a new language and High School Spanish.
