Volunteers Share Their Passion for Fly Fishing

student with fish in a net For the past thirteen years, Bob Knoebel,  Chairman of Youth Education for the Hemingway Chapter of Trout Unlimited, has organized outings for the Alturas School, Bellevue Elementary, the YMCA summer camps, Higher Ground and new this year, the YMCA/BCSD Power Scholars program, all conducted at the Hayspur Fish Hatchery with the assistance of the hatchery staff who provide tours of their trout rearing facilities for the outings.

Each year Trout Unlimited volunteers fish with over 100 students, exposing them to the sport of fly fishing and hopefully motivating them to take up the sport someday. They also make sure to teach students how to handle the fish carefully to conserve this resource so valuable to our valley.

Each outing also offers the students a chance to learn about local birdlife with one of our valley's expert birders.  One of the volunteers this year happened to be Wood River Middle School teacher Dan Gralenski.

These volunteers help our students discover new ways to be inspired, engaged, educated and empowered.  Thank you to each of them for their dedication to our youth and for their time and enthusiasm as they share their love of the outdoors with a whole new generation.
