First Grade teachers at Alturas Elementary value camaraderie, teamwork, and innovation. Our highest priority is the development of the whole child. We nurture student progress by focusing on academic, emotional, and social success. First Grade curriculum engages students in Reading, Writing, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Health. In addition, we offer special enrichment courses in Music, Art, Physical Education, and Technology. Students attend these "special classes" weekly along with computer training and instructive Library skills.

Our Dual Immersion Program provides an opportunity for students to study academics in both Spanish and English. This program opens the door to other cultures and helps students understand and appreciate one another. We believe parent involvement in school is important to the success of our students and welcome parent volunteers to participate in our classrooms and assist on our field trips.
