Mrs. Melanie Blacker - 4th Grade

I am bursting with enthusiasm to teach and participate in the growth of students at Alturas Elementary! I am so honored to be a part of this school.  The students are incredible! The teachers are amazing!  And, I believe helping students become fluent in two languages is an invaluable gift.

In 2002, I graduated from the University of Utah with a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation Therapy.  Upon graduation, I moved to Idaho Falls where I worked as a Recreational Therapist in a Behavioral Health Center for ten years.  In 2012 we moved to the Wood River Valley.  I began working within the school district as a PSR worker and a Behavioral Intervention Professional.  During this time, I was inspired by the teachers within the district and began the process of attaining my teaching certificate.  I achieved this goal in May, 2015. The following school year, I was hired by the District as a classroom paraprofessional at Bellevue Elementary.

I earned the title of "classroom teacher" in 2016.  Since that time, I have thoroughly enjoyed teaching both 4th and 5th grade students at Alturas.  I love to learn and challenge myself with new opportunities.  Currently, I am working on a Master of Education degree in Educational Leadership.  As a teacher, my goal is to share my passion for learning so that my students can experience the satisfaction which only comes from personal growth and achievement.
