Neighborhood Schools, Daycare, Dual Immersion and Transportation

School Placement: A child’s neighborhood school is determined by the parent’s physical address in the town in which they live. In the case where a child is picked up or dropped off at a different address (i.e., daycare) this address then becomes the address that determines the child’s neighborhood school.

Child Using Transportation Services: The selection of a neighborhood school is very important and should be made prior to registration. Having the daycare address for your student’s pick-up/drop-off location ready at registration assures your student's placement in that neighborhood school.

Example: A child lives in the Bellevue neighborhood school boundary. The day care address is in the Alturas neighborhood school boundary. If using transportation services, the child’s school would be Alturas Elementary.

Location change during school year: If a child moves to a different daycare/home address outside the neighborhood school boundary they are currently attending, parents will be responsible for their child’s transportation to and from school, if there is no room available at the new neighborhood school determined by the new address.

Dual Immersion: ALL families interested in entering their child into the lottery for Dual Immersion at Alturas or Hemingway will need to complete a Dual Immersion Letter of Intent during registration.  This includes families with students already in the program.  If you are a parent NEW to Dual Immersion, you are very strongly encouraged to attend an information session for parents prior to registration.

Please call the Transportation Department at 578-5420 for questions on transportation services and neighborhood school boundaries.
