• Frequently Asked Questions for Transportation

Who is eligible for bus transportation?

Elementary students who live more than .5 miles from school.  Middle and high school students who live more than .75 miles from school.

    Why?

The State of Idaho reimburses schools for bus transportation for students who live more than 1.5 miles away from school.  Blaine County School District goes above and beyond the state reimbursement while continuing to look for efficiencies in our systems and ways to improve our services.

    Elementary Students

We will transport elementary students who live approximately more than .5 miles from school.   Exceptions to this include elementary students who have to cross a major highway without a manned crossing.

    Middle and High School Students

We will transport middle and high school students who live approximately more than .75 miles from school with the exception of students who have to cross a major highway without a flashing light crosswalk.

    One Pick-Up and Drop-Off Location

Recently we learned that some schools receive up to 50 requests a day for transportation changes and some receive 10-15 each day. Multiplied by eight schools, we estimate there were up to 100 requests each day for different drop-off locations after school each day. Due to safety concerns, Idaho statute, Board policy, financial resources and staff considerations, we are not able to continue providing different drop-off locations on different days of the week for individual students.  We wish we had known this earlier and we are making every effort to communicate now so that parents can make plans for their children after school.

We will provide one fixed pick-up location in the morning and one fixed drop-off location in the afternoon within the school’s attendance zone. The morning location and the afternoon location may differ, but once they are determined, they need to remain the same two locations throughout the school year.

     Why?

    • We are accountable for the safety of our students. Having fixed bus routes greatly improves our ability to ensure our students are accounted for and safely transported each day.
    • We have to budget and plan our school routes at the beginning of each year.  Multiple seats on different buses for individual students require additional buses and bus drivers.

If your child has two different homes, please contact your school principal. Check back soon for more information about Mountain Rides bus schedules and bus stop locations near each school.
