Mr. Collier

My name is George Collier.  I'm a native of the Wood River Valley, and had the good fortune to work my way through the Blaine County School District, and graduate from Wood River High School.  I had some really inspirational teachers in high school, many of whom are still teaching here today. I love my work here and I really appreciate this place as a former student of Wood River High School.

Living in the valley for a lifetime has given me an appreciation for the outdoors, and all the amazing activities this place affords us.  I grew up cross country ski racing on the Sun Valley Ski Team, which gave me an opportunity to race in college at University of Nevada, Reno.  I developed a love of science there, and earned a BS in Secondary Education, with a focus on life sciences.  I went on to University of Utah for a Masters of Biology, focusing on Biology education.

When I'm not teaching, my dogs and I are usually in the mountains hiking, skiing, hunting, biking, or camping.  A strong connection to the outdoors promotes an understanding of the natural world that aids in science teaching.  I encourage my students to relate our lessons to their lives outside the classroom, and to use their science education to become better stewards of the outdoors.
